Knit-Rite SmartKnit® AFO Liner

The SmartKnit AFO Liner is a specially designed protective sleeve for plastic AFOs. This innovative liner covers the AFO, not the leg, and shields the wearer’s skin from direct contact with the AFO material reducing sheering or chafing. It provides a healthy comfortable cushioning shield for the AFO wearer’s leg and a breathable cushion
for the foot without being hot or bulky. In a choice of white CoolMax, tan polyester or black polyester/X-STATIC® fibers, the liner wicks moisture away from the wearer’s legs, keeping them drier. The yarns are "core-spun" around Lycra, providing the unique benefits of less wrinkling and an ability to conform to the various shapes of AFOs. Core-spun yarns also offer greater strength and superior rebound. All three fibers provide antimicrobial benefits, making the AFO Liner more hygienic.

Antimicrobial Benefits
Moisture management is essential in preventing various skin conditions associated with wearing an AFO brace for long periods of time. Patented SmartKnit AFO Socks are made of advanced CoolMax® or X-STATIC fibers which provide maximum moisture control by wicking dampness away from the skin. These moisture management systems help prevent skin problems caused by perspiration and the bacteria that thrive in moist skin environments. CoolMax® and polyester fibers are treated with an antimicrobial to inhibit odor-causing
bacteria. The silver in X-STATIC fibers acts as a natural antimicrobial, which helps kill the bacteria that causes dermatitis.

Wrinkle and Pressure Point Reduction Wrinkling and bunching can cause pressure points which can lead to serious health care complications, especially in people with reduced sensation in the legs and feet. SmartKnit’s unique knitting process uses corespun spandex yarns that conform to the AFO. This special design ensures SmartKnit AFO Liners help reduce pressure points normally caused by sock wrinkling and bunching in the AFO brace.
